It began with a simple Facebook post.
On July 25, 2025, Security Bank Foundation shared the story of a quiet man named Ricardo “Jun” Laingo, a former security guard who dreamed of becoming a banker. No one expected what would happen next.
Within days, the post went viral—garnering nearly six million views, thousands of shares, and countless comments from people who saw a part of themselves in Jun’s journey. He was not a celebrity. He was not seeking fame. But his story of faith, humility, and relentless perseverance, reminded the nation that dreams are still worth fighting for.
Behind the viral sensation was a story that began years earlier in Miputak, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.
Jun, then 35, worked as a security guard at Security Bank Dipolog Branch from 2018 to 2022. Every day, he stood by the doors of the bank, greeting employees and customers with the same quiet dedication. But deep down, he was fighting another battle, the ache of unfinished dreams.
He had always wanted to earn a degree, but life took him elsewhere.
Then came a turning point.
When he learned about the Regalo Mo, Kinabukasan Ko (RMKK) Scholarship Program of Security Bank Foundation, Jun saw a chance — maybe his only one — to go back to school. He worked by day, studied by night, and held on to his faith that one day, the uniform he wore would no longer be of a guard, but of a banker.
In 2022, Jun graduated with high honors and earned his degree in Computer Science. Soon after, the man who once guarded the bank’s doors was welcomed inside, not as an employee of a security agency, but as a Security Bank teller.
When the Foundation shared this story online, the world stopped to listen.
Comments poured in: “Nakakaiyak. What an inspiration.” “Proof that no dream is too far.” “We’re proud of you.” People from all walks of life, students, workers, parents, found hope in Jun’s journey. It was not just a success story. It was a reflection of their own silent struggles.
His story caught the attention of major media outlets like PhilStar and PEP.ph, and later, GMA Public Affairs. On October 4, Jun was featured on “Good News with Vicky Morales” on GTV Channel 27, where his story touched even more hearts nationwide.
Behind Jun’s transformation is a community of givers, Security Bank employees who pool donations or personally “adopt” scholars each year under the RMKK program, making education possible for dreamers like him.
When asked about his sudden rise to fame, Jun smiled shyly, his humility unchanged. “Nabigla po ako. Bigla na lang po akong nakilala ng mga tao. Pero gusto ko lang pong magpasalamat at mas pagbutihan pa sa trabaho. Sana ma-inspire pa po ‘yung iba, walang imposible kung magsisikap ka, magtitiwala sa sarili mo, at pahalagahan ang tulong ng mga taong naniniwala sa’yo.”
Jun’s story is not about virality. It is about validation that kindness creates ripples, and faith turns impossibilities into destiny.
Jun’s journey is a living testament to the Security Bank Foundation’s belief that when you give someone a chance at education, you do not just change a life, you move a nation.
