Project Overview
The Ready, Set, Read! program aims to deliver a comprehensive solution to address the low proficiency of elementary students in English reading through the production of educational videos in partnership with Knowledge Channel. These were distributed online, offline, and on-air. It partnered with AHA! Behavioral Center in providing workshops for parents and teachers to further improve the learning of students.
These videos intended for elementary pupils were produced following the Department of Education’s Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) Guide and focused on the following four critical skills in English Reading:
- Inferring the meaning of unfamiliar words (Grade 5)
- Making inferences and drawing conclusions based on texts (Grade 3)
- Predicting possible ending of a story (Grade 1)
- Interpreting simple graphs, tables and pictographs (Grade 3)
Teachers and parents can use these videos for free to enhance children’s reading skills at the safety and comfort of home. The videos can also serve as teaching materials in classrooms once face-to-face learning delivery resumes.
Partnerships
The Foundation partnered with two of the top academic institutions in the country, Ateneo De Manila University and De La Salle Philippines, to develop and conduct training programs for educators in their beneficiary schools.
The training is accredited by the Professional Regulations Commission enabling participants to earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units needed for the renewal of teachers’ and school principals’ professional license.
