While the Security Bank Foundation focuses on improving the state of education in the country through classrooms and training interventions for public schools as well as providing scholarships to deserving students, it is not, by any means, the only thing that keeps the Foundation going.
Over the years, SBFI has consistently found ways to reach out to marginalized individuals and communities to provide them the tools that will empower them to become productive citizens.
Saving Lives Through Partnership with Red Cross
Donation of Fully-Equipped Ambulance Units
partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, has saved 1,889 people, including 674 individuals who were involved in road crash incidents and medical emergencies, through SBFI’s donation of five fully-equipped ambulance units.
SBFI began equipping the Philippine Red Cross with ambulance units in 2015. Two of the five ambulance units donated are stationed at the Philippine Red Cross’ M/V Amazing Grace, the country’s first and only humanitarian vessel activated during disasters as rapid transport and landing vessel, relief supply transport ship, hospital ship, medical facility deployment ship, sea rescue vessel, mass evacuation vessel, humanitarian logistics ship, mobile operations command post, and humanitarian education and training ship.
Donation of Ambulance Units Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic
In an effort to aid in the country’s response against the COVID-19 pandemic, Security Bank Foundation has provided funding to the Philippine Red Cross for three negative pressure ambulance units to help transport patients suspected of COVID-19.
Negative pressure ambulances are utilized for transmitting high risk patients or cases. It protects both the patient and the paramedics from contaminating one another. The vehicles are equipped with equipment that lowers air pressure and disinfects and filters the air, largely reducing the risk of cross-infection.
Setting Up of Bio-Molecular Laboratory to Support COVID-19 Mass Testing
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Central Visayas, Security Bank Foundation funded the setting up of a bio-molecular laboratory in Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City in partnership with Philippine Red Cross. This laboratory is equipped with polymerase chain machines that can run up to a total of 8,000 COVID-19 tests a day. Post COVID-19, the bio-molecular laboratory is multidimensional and can also serve as a testing center for Tuberculosis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Hepatitis and Respiratory Tract Diseases.
Providing Medical Assistance and Services
Security Bank and Security Bank Foundation, in partnership with a group of medical post-graduate interns under the Department of Health–Philippine Centers for Specialized Health Care, provided basic medical services to three hundred (300) residents of Coron, Palawan.
Security Bank sponsored the mission which brought free circumcision services, medical consultations, lectures and medicines to residents of Coron, Palawan.
SBFI, on the other hand, distributed three hundred (300) hygiene kits provided with toiletries from a number of Security Bank clients and packed by Security Bank employees.
SBFI also extends medical financial assistance to Security Bank employees and agency personnel, including their dependents, to cover the cost of their hospitalization and medication expenses, most especially if they have already exhausted their existing healthcare coverage.
Tree-planting volunteer drives
The Foundation, together with Security Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility Arm, also leads volunteer drives to help in the reforestation of the La Mesa Watershed, with a commitment of planting 10,000 seedlings starting 2022. This was through partnership with ABS-CBN Foundation’s Bantay Kalikasan Program and the involvement of more than 200 Security Bank employees.Â
Donation of educational materials
Security Bank Foundation also equips schools with learning resources, such as portable media libraries and Makeroscopes to aid in their learning.
