Leann Patrice Ganzon, 24, stands as proof that hardship can be transformed into hope, and hope into action. Her journey from a struggling student to a Certified Public Accountant-lawyer-in-the-making is not just a personal triumph—it is a story of resilience, gratitude, and a deep commitment to nation-building.
Leann grew up in a family of three—her mother, younger sister, and herself. When her father left, her mother became the sole provider, moving them from Iloilo to Manila for better education. The shift was difficult, with higher costs and heavier responsibilities, and as the eldest, Leann quickly stepped up, caring for her sister while helping her mother keep the household afloat.
Her college journey began in the middle of the pandemic. She had just been accepted into the University of the Philippines–Diliman (UP Diliman) and secured the Security Bank Foundation scholarship. That support gave her family relief, knowing educational expenses were covered.
When her mother opened a small café to make ends meet, Leann stepped in—working as cashier, barista, and waitress while waiting for online classes to begin. Once school started, the balancing act became harder. The long hours nearly cost her a subject, and exhaustion was constant. Still, she pressed on, holding tightly to her “why”—the reminder of who she was striving for and why she could not give up.
Her perseverance paid off. In college, she rose to leadership as Vice President for Liaison of UP-Diliman Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants, proving that service and excellence were inseparable in her journey. She graduated cum laude, passed the CPA Licensure Exam, and carried with her not only academic honors but also the resilience of someone who had overcome hardship with grace.
Leann’s vision stretches far beyond personal success. In 2025, she entered UP Law to pursue a Juris Doctor degree, determined to become a CPA-lawyer. “I believe that pursuing a law degree and becoming a lawyer would be the best use of my talents to help better society,” she shares. For her, education is not just a career path—it is a tool to build a more just, more hopeful Philippines.
Her inspirations remain close to home: her mother and sister, whose sacrifices and resilience fuel her drive. “I am living my life for them, and all of my goals are to be shared with them,” she says. She also expresses deep gratitude to the Security Bank Foundation, acknowledging how their support allowed her to dream bigger and achieve more.
Beyond academics, Leann nurtured her artistic side. She once joined Idol Philippines and Tawag ng Tanghalan, even recording songs under Ivory Music. She shared her talent at Security Bank Foundation events, proving that her voice—whether in song or in advocacy—can inspire others to believe in their own potential.
Leann’s story is a reminder that scholarships are more than financial aid; they are investments for future leaders who will shape a better nation. Her advice to fellow dreamers is simple yet powerful: “Always remember your why. The reminder of who you are doing this for or why you are aiming as high as you can will give you the push you need in times of burnout.”
In Leann Patrice Ganzon, we see not just a scholar, but a builder of hope. Her journey tells us that even in the face of brokenness, one can rise, strive, and shine—for family, for community, and for a better tomorrow.
