Now in its 30th year, Security Bank Foundation, Inc. (SBFI) has been actively supporting scholars from the elementary to college level (along with supporting Security Bank employees taking their Master’s degrees) in its mission to advance quality education in the country.
Over the years, it has raised many successful individuals, some of whom have decided to join the bank itself. One such success story is Ivan Rudolf Borlongan, who has now achieved a significant milestone of being ranked assistant vice president of the Transaction Banking Group at Security Bank at just 33 years old.
His remarkable journey from being a college scholar supported by the SBFI to his current role is not only inspiring but a meaningful result of the transformative power of education and opportunity.
Borlongan entered Security Bank as an implementation assistant, initially positioned as a rank-and-file employee. With dedication and hard work, he now manages the Bank’s top 1,000 accounts in the Philippines, dealing with clients from various sectors such as telecommunications, utilities, and mining companies.
He recalls that during his college years, his family faced financial struggles that forced them to move from Bicol to Manila. It was then that SBFI stepped in as a lifeline.
With financial support, Borlongan was able to complete his degree in Business Administration at the Centro Escolar University in Manila. “If not for SBFI’s assistance, I might have had to work while studying,” he said, which would have made it difficult to excel academically. His scholarship eased the financial burden on his family and allowed him to focus on his studies.
Upon graduating, Borlongan started working and began supporting his family financially, even helping send his second sibling to college, who is majoring in Business Administration as well. His success has had a ripple effect on his family’s future.
Today, Borlongan is grateful for SBFI’s support, which he acknowledges as a crucial factor in his success. He emphasizes that it’s not just about financial assistance but also about changing lives through education. His focus now is on how to give back to both his community and SBFI, ensuring that more students can benefit from the Foundation’s generosity.
By the end of 2023, SBFI supported more than 2,000 scholars where 1,225 graduated, with 44 graduated college with Latin honors and 10 employed in Security Bank. To learn more about Security Bank Foundation’s projects and how you can contribute, visit www.securitybank.com/foundation.
