Security Bank Foundation (SBFI), in partnership with the Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED) and One La Salle Educational Foundation (OLEF), organized two batches of three-day teachers’ trainings for teaching strategies in English and Araling Panlipunan. 

The annual teachers’ training program is a major component of Security Bank Foundation’s “Build a School, Build a Nation: The Classrooms Project”.  Around 384 teachers from different elementary, junior and senior high schools nationwide attended. 

The training focused on using 21st century skills to teach the subjects, primarily the use of digital learning applications. ACED and OLEF mentors also provided activities and online resources for the teachers to use to make learning more collaborative and engaging. Demonstrations were done by the teachers on the last day of their training, in order to incorporate the theories, strategies, and tools they have learned. 

“Text Annotation was one of the most remarkable strategies I learned during this training,” said English teacher Joan Tacud. She plans on using these strategies on her students at Ilocos Sur National High School. “I could incorporate this into readings of The Little Prince, for example, and have my students annotate it for clearer understanding.” 

Participants were given additional art appreciation and financial wellness learning sessions. The financial wellness session was conducted by Elsa De Gracia, Security Bank’s Wellness Coach, where they learned about managing personal finances and growing savings through investments. 

Since 2014, Security Bank Foundation has already trained 1,387 teachers in Araling Panlipunan, English, Mathematics and Science teaching strategies.
