Washington SyCip, Security Bank and MUFG of Japan unveil Tsuruki-En Japanese Garden

14 February 2017, Manila, Philippines — Washington SyCip, Security Bank Corporation (SBC) and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) of Japan unveiled the first Japanese garden at the heart of Makati Central Business District.

Located inside Washington SyCip Park in Legaspi Village, the Japanese garden, named Tsuruki-En (Crane and Turtle) after the traditional symbols of long life, peace and happiness, features a taste of Japanese culture and arts with its rustic landscape.

The garden will be a living symbol of the friendly relations and hearty cultural exchange between Japan and the Philippines.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by His Excellency Ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa, SGV & Co. Founder Mr. Washington SyCip, Chairman Emeritus of Security Bank Corporation Mr. Frederick Dy, MUFG Managing Executive and Chief Executive Officer for the Bank’s Asia and Oceania Region Mr. Takayoshi Futae, Ayala Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jaime Augusto Zobel De Ayala, Security Bank Chairman Alberto Villarosa, and Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay.sake-breaking-ceremony_tsuruki-en_crane-and-turtle-garden

Highlight of the event was the unveiling of the markers to commemorate the three-way partnership among Mr. Washington SyCip, Security Bank and MUFG. Mr. SyCip spearheaded the project to provide a sanctuary for meditation inside the park which was named after him to honor his contributions to Philippine business, commerce and society.  The unveiling was followed by a spirited sake-breaking ceremony which is believed to augur harmony and long-lasting relations among the principal proponents.

According to Security Bank Chairman Alberto Villarosa, the creation of the garden will promote the strengthening of people-to-people ties and cross-cultural cooperation.

Mr. Takayoshi Futae who is also a Director on the Board of Security Bank Corporation expressed that this partnership emphasizes Japan’s continuous investment to Philippine businesses and support for the country’s economic growth.

Tsuruki En Garden promises to be a new landmark that will provide a sanctuary from the hectic world and a perfect haven of peace and harmony.
