Security Bank Corporation has partnered with education advocate CCT Visions of Hope Foundation to provide learning opportunities for the tribal children in Malungon, Sarangani through the Eduk-Aksyon Scholarship Campaign.
Geared towards securing a better future for indigent children, the Eduk-Aksyon Program aims to send more young people to school and give them access to adequate learning resources. For as low as PHP10 per day or PHP300 per month, Security Bank customers can sponsor at least one child just by completing a sponsor profile form and donating through their Mastercard credit card or cash/check deposits. Sponsors have an option to donate on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, annually, and yearly or one-time basis.
The program’s beneficiaries are thoughtfully chosen to include marginalized children who live in remote, mountainous areas and do not have access to quality education and other development opportunities. The families of these kids often prioritize basic needs over education to survive and are not empowered to make decisions that uplift their standards of living.
To date, more than 50 students have already benefited from the Eduk-Aksyon Scholarship Program. These kids continue to show eagerness to pursue their studies and expand their knowledge, with the help of dedicated teachers who commit to do more for these young learners.
“When we finish our studies, tribal children like me will be able to help our families and ease our suffering from poverty. Indeed, education is the only inheritance my parents hope to give to us,” shared Jerelyn Manggaga, a 15-year-old student beneficiary in Malungon, Sarangani.
In 2017, the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm Security Bank Foundation Inc. (SBFI) donated a two-story, six-classroom school building to Visions of Hope Christian School. Recently, as part of its commitment to education despite the pandemic, SBFI has turned over a total of four, two-story school buildings in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat and Digos City Davao Del Sur, with 26 classrooms in total.
“I do not belong to the tribe of Malungon, Sarangani, but my husband is part of the B’laan and TagaKaolo tribe. I have been serving CCT-Visions of Hope Christian School (CCT-VOHCS) as a missionary teacher for eight years. From the bottom of my heart, I am so grateful to Security Bank and Security Bank Foundation for helping the children of CCT-VOHCS. The school building that you have donated gives me and the children hope to strive and reach for our dreams. Thank you very much for your generosity and for believing in our children’s potential. May the Lord God be with you always and bless your endeavors,” said Diza Misiona Barcelosa, a teacher in CCT Visions of Hope Christian School.
In celebration of Security Bank’s 70th anniversary, the Bank will donate PHP1 million to the Eduk-Aksyon campaign to shoulder the miscellaneous and other operating expenses of the foundation.
