Happy New Year! What are your resolutions for 2016?

A quick poll around our office revealed that quite a few of our staff are looking to drop 10 pounds this year. But, surprise surprise, they wanted to lose the weight by cooking in instead of eating out. We scored a last-minute deal with high-end cookware company BergHOFF to bring our credit and debit card holders a sweet 30% discount.

I was surprised to see a full kitchen in the heart of Legaspi Village, where skyscrapers compose most of the area’s landscape. This full kitchen serves as the office of the exclusive local distributor of the award-winning Belgian kitchenware company, BergHOFF. The timing of the meeting was perfect as I’m in the process of upgrading my kitchen setup with new cookware – mine are warped and worn from years of cooking for my two girls.

Before my meeting with Neil Sagun, VP and Country Manager of The Fundamental Kitchen (and Chef Extraordinaire), I took a quick look at The Fundamental Kitchen and BergHOFF’s webpages, revealing beautifully designed cookware that could easily double as contemporary art. But during our meeting, as Neil talked about BergHOFF’s evolution from its inception in 1964, it became clear to me that what I had seen was not simply cookware with a prettier finish and sexier shape – for example, The Fundamental Kitchen line showcases the latest European technology with high-grade, surgical stainless steel and zero nickel that benefits both the body and the environment.

I didn’t realize how transformational cookware could be until Neil gave me a cooking demonstration with BergHOFF tools. Before our demo began, Neil claimed that with The Fundamental Kitchen’s pots and pans, I would be able to fry a chicken with no oil and cook Sinigang na Sugpo without any additional water. This is because the pans are made of chromotamium material that allows ingredients to sweat their flavors naturally with minimum fat and water.

Neil’s sinigang recipe was refreshed by the use of calamansi instead of sampaloc as the souring ingredient. The resulting flavor was subtle and fresh. In just 6 minutes, the vegetables cooked to a perfect, crunchy texture and the prawns were sweet and succulent. He also made an special oilless fried chicken with just salt and pepper, he placed the chicken in the BergHOFF pot and 20 minutes later, we ate an incredibly flavorful dish. I didn’t know that cooking (healthy) fried chicken could be been so easy and worry-free!

I’ve always been concerned about my family’s health and nutrition but as a full-time working mom, it’s incredibly difficult to make sure my family eats well.
