10 Success Habits of Wealthy People
Ever wondered how the rich live their daily lives? You may have seen Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, the Zobels, and the Ayalas on TV interviews, news articles, magazines, and find yourself asking, “What could they be doing that I’m not doing?”

Forget about the money. Beyond the posh and the fancy, these people have something in common, and it all boils down to what they do. To help you start on your journey to financial success, here are ten habits you should consider adopting now.
Create luck, not bets
You might think that gambling and lottery—with pure luck—is the key to instant wealth. Rich people know otherwise. They gain the upper hand by carving their own paths and taking it from there. Luck isn’t something you should seek out actively. It’s called “luck” because of its nature: unpredictable and unexpected. Instead, find your success by going outside comfort zones, creating networks with the people you meet, and having a positive outlook in life. Ditch those cards and have the ace up your sleeves instead.
Make goals, not wishes
There’s only so much you can do by wishing and hoping. Creating goals, however, can take you to success. For instance, when investing, rich people like to gain control of their money. They exhaust all possible scenarios where their money would be most productive. Don’t invest without goals and then wish that your wealth will just grow.
Successful people make things happen by choosing investment options (UITF, mutual fund, and stocks, among others) that align with their financial goals. Don’t wish for wealth without thinking how to achieve it.
Read and unplug
While you scroll through an endless feed of fun, mindless entertainment, those who work hard to gain success are busy reading and engaging with personal development and work activities. They use their time to go one step further by learning and discovering new things every day – with no screens constantly glued to their faces. There’s no problem with TV, Facebook, and Twitter, but they can be distractions on your daily goals and decrease productivity.
Start the day early
It’s no secret that rich people are morning people. They begin their day as soon as the sun rises, mentally preparing for challenges, meditation, and self-reflection. They beat the traffic and work rush with peaceful moments before going back into the fray. Remember, setting your day in proper order early will help avoid procrastination and increase work efficiency.
Going up early also means sleeping at the right time. A good night’s sleep will help you be your best and ready for a new day tomorrow.
Saying ‘No’
Saying ‘yes’ may be the courteous thing to do, but you should also know when to turn requests down and say ‘no’. Constantly pushing yourself will have you running on fumes and eventually give output below your standards. Also remember that you can’t please everybody, so try to be in control of your own life instead. Have your own priorities, and be better off by following them regularly. In a world full of judgment, be like Ginni Rometty, IBM’s CEO, who once said, “Don’t let others define you, define yourself.”
Network and meet people
Friends and influence are two things money can’t buy. If you’re with the right individuals who have the same interests and goals, there’s nothing you can’t do together. It pays to know people and build a wide network in this world that’s constantly getting smaller. The person you bump into today could be your future business partner. Meeting new faces every day can also help improve your personality, skills, and work performance, so strike up a conversation and gain confidence.
Express gratitude
Showing gratitude has a powerful effect on the person you’re giving thanks to. Such a simple act can give a positive impact on your relationships, and maintaining them is key to a successful venture. Rich people show their composure and grace by knowing when and how to say thanks, no matter how small or big a deed is.
Living within their means
Rich people may have the money and time to splurge, but one thing is for sure, they don’t live beyond their means. Building wealth while resisting temptations is hard, but there’s a thin line between spending on necessities to just plain wasting. No matter how much you earn, failing to manage your expenses can bring you back from scratch. Living within your means is to live comfortably while saving for the future—with no overwhelming debts and greedy desires.
Challenging the status quo
Rich people never stop challenging and becoming critical of the status quo. They step out of their comfort zone and explore new things outside the box. Indeed, you’ll meet people who won’t like you or share the same ideals with you, but you have to remain firm in challenging the norms of life. Google co-founder Larry Page once said, “Always work hard on something uncomfortably exciting.”
Forecasting the future
Rich people think of stability and longevity. They set out plans and predict possible scenarios that could hinder their goals. After all, no one makes it to the top without being prepared.
There are other ways to get wealthy, but learning from other’s mistakes and successes could spell the difference in your goal to financial success. Practice their habits, and who knows? Maybe in the upcoming years, you’ll read your name in Forbes’ list of The Richest People in the Philippines.
