The Role

The API Engineer supports the API Platform Team by designing, building, and employing API solutions to connect both internal and third-party technologies. S/He is expected to use leading-edge development practices and leverage cutting-edge technologies to build a technology advantage for SBC. 

How you’ll contribute

• • Delivers API solutions that streamline, simplify and improve SBC’s operations/products 
  • Produces fully functional, robust, and scalable code which is well-written/documented 
  • Supports the entire API lifecycle process (concept, design, test, release/publish) 
  • Implements performance improvement measures to provide best-in-class services to business 
  • Researches, trains, and advocates novel technologies and tools to ensure the latest trends and developments are considered as part of SBC’s API platform. 
  • Supports a positive and collaborative digital delivery culture with a philosophy of continuous improvement, development, innovation, and excellence, while remaining in compliance with the bank’s policies and procedures and upholding the highest standards of professional conduct 

What we’re looking for

• 3-5 years of experience in software development and API development is required 
• • Strong knowledge of API development, design, and management, including experience with API gateways and management platforms 
  • Strong understanding of RESTful and SOAP web services, and experience with microservices architecture 
  • Strong programming skills in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Python, or JavaScript 
  • Strong understanding of security principles and experience implementing security measures for APIs 
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) 
  • Strong knowledge of Agile software development methodologies 
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills 
  • Knowledge of the bank’s IT systems and infrastructure, as well as the bank’s business and regulatory requirements 
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for API development and management
