Security Bank Foundation partnered with De La Salle Philippines to help build classrooms and improve the quality of public school education in the Northern and Southern Luzon areas.
For this particular partnership, the Foundation will provide funding for the construction of the classrooms in identified public school beneficiaries while De La Salle Philippines through its De La Salle schools will provide support community activities to the identified public beneficiary schools, such as training for the teachers, and tutorial programs for the students. The respective Department of Education Division Offices and the Local Government Units will also be invited as partners in the said project. The pilot areas of the Foundation for the Classrooms Project in partnership with De La Salle Philippines are Lipa, Batangas and Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Security Bank Foundation Chairman Rafael F. Simpao, Jr. and De La Salle Philippines President Br. Jose Mari Jimenez FSC led the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement in a simple ceremony last April 23, 2014 at the Security Bank Head Office in Makati City.
Also present during the activity was Security Bank Foundation Trustees Melissa R. Aquino and Joselito Mape, Security Land General Manager Jose Ma Montinola, Security Bank SAVP and Head of Management Accounting Division Michael Gamo, De La Salle Philippines representatives Eden Battad, Marivic Mercado, Joy Critica and Claudeth Cantoria.
To date, SBFI has funded and built a total of 121 classrooms to benefit an estimated 8,000 to 12,000 public school students: 40 kindergarten classrooms, 61 classrooms for elementary schools, and 20 classrooms for public high schools in partnership with Ateneo de Manila University and AGAPP Foundation, Inc. The project has already benefitted 18 schools in Luzon (Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Baguio, Benguet, Laguna, Cavite, Isabela, and Bicol), 10 schools in the Visayas (Mandaue, Iloilo, Bacolod and Tacloban), and 10 schools in Mindanao (Davao City, Tagum, Davao del Norte, Cagayan de Oro, and Zamboanga. On top of this, forty-eight (48) classrooms for eight (8) public schools in the Earthquake and Super Typhoon Yolanda affected communities in Tagbilaran City, Bohol; Mandaue City, Cebu; Roxas City, Capiz; and Tacloban City and Ormoc City, Leyte are scheduled to start construction in May and June 2014.
Through this partnership with De La Salle Philippines, the Foundation will reach more public schools in the Luzon region. It is also an affirmation of the Foundation’s commitment to help create a brighter tomorrow for the next generation of Filipinos through better education.
