In fulfillment of its commitment to help improve the academic performance of the students in schools via construction of new classrooms and training support to upgrade quality of education in public schools, the Security Bank Foundation provided funding for the pilot three-day live-in Teacher-Trainers Training in Elementary Mathematics for fifty (50) public school teachers from the nine (9) public school beneficiaries of Security Bank Foundation’s Classrooms Project in the Bicol and Visayas regions. The training activity was held at Betania Retreat House in Nivel Hills, Lahug, Cebu City last October 20-22, 2014.
Ateneo de Manila University’s Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED), a project partner of the Foundation, developed, organized and conducted the training for pre-identified teachers from the public elementary school beneficiaries in the Bicol and Visayas regions. The training activity was part of the second phase of the Classrooms Project of Security Bank Foundation that aims to help improve the academic performance of the students of its public school beneficiaries by providing the necessary capability enhancements for the teachers.
For this particular training activity, public elementary school teachers were taught new ways on how to teach Elementary Mathematics for Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-6 to make learning easier and fun for their students. The trained teachers were also requested to conduct an echo training of their learnings to their fellow teachers when they return to their own schools.
“Thank you so much for giving our teachers the opportunity to experience the best training! They learned a lot, and they said that the resource persons are all very good. We will have our trained teachers do the echo training to their fellow teachers who did not attend the training in November this year. We hope there will be more trainings for our teachers to attend next time”, shares School Principal Monina Gabrino of San Jose Central school in Tacloban City.
Security Bank Foundation will be monitoring the National Achievement Test (NAT) results of its public school beneficiaries nationwide to ensure positive impact of the training program. The Foundation will be organizing another trainors’ training for teachers in Elementary English from the same public school beneficiaries in the Bicol and Visayas regions sometime in April 2015. A series of similar trainings will also be organized for the Mindanao group of public school beneficiaries of the Foundation’s Classrooms Project in 2015.
